Learning/thinking Maps
A Definition
Maps are the most challenging of these three strategies, but the ones with the biggest mental payoff for students. These maps ask students to take what they already know about words and illustrate them, making connections between prior knowledge, previous vocabulary words, and images that come to mind when they think of the word. With maps, consider starting out with a clear structure like the image to the right. Then, as students get more comfortable with the process, they can move to a more freeform, artistic style.
